Marlo Stevens holds a rosary during a visit to New Orleans. Stevens resettled in Little Rock, Ark., after Hurricane Katrina and donated the use of her properties to a non-profit organization to house volunteers.

Stevens showed me how she held this rosary while trying to get out of New Orleans after the federal levees failed.
