All 31 of New Orleans' Canal Street streetcars were flooded after Hurricane Katrina. Three years later, the first six returned to service after being renovated at a cost of $1 million per streetcar at the Carrollton Station maintenance facility in the Carrollton neighborhood.

Emile Messina helped build the Canal Street streetcars from the ground up. Watch Messina in the woodshop as he builds a mahogany seat-back just as they have been built for decades.
